Why is preventative dental care important?

It is important to have your teeth cleaned by a dental professional at least twice per year. This helps to eliminate soft and hard buildup on the teeth, even what is hiding under the gumline.

Our dental hygienists use a gentle yet thorough approach to remove biofilm, reduce bacterial loads, and create tooth surfaces that are easier to keep clean at home.

In addition to regular teeth cleanings, a licensed dentist should evaluate the overall condition of your oral cavity to catch any dental concerns in the earliest possible stage.

We aim to create healthy and happy smiles while preventing harmful diseases stemming from poor oral health, such as heart disease.

The simplest and most important thing you can do to maintain a healthy smile is to brush your teeth daily. We recommend brushing a minimum of twice per day with an electric toothbrush.

In addition to brushing you will need to floss to prevent bacteria and food debris from staying between teeth and contributing to cavities or gingivitis. Flossing should be done daily with string floss, ensuring the floss reaches as far below the gums as possible without creating discomfort.

Mouthrinses are great for freshening bad breath, reducing plaque and gingivitis, and preventing tooth decay. Some mouthwashes contain fluoride which can help remineralize your teeth!

You can also try tongue scrapers to gently clean the surface of your tongue and reduce bad breath causing bacteria

If you have an oral appliance such as a retainer or night guard it is important that you wear it nightly to prevent teeth from shifting and prevent wear from clenching and grinding.

Tips:

-Use gentle pressure and brush in a circular motion. Don't forget to brush your gums too!

-Water flossers are great but should always be used in combination with string floss to get the best results!

-When choosing a mouthwash for you, always opt for one that is alcohol-free!
